Media in the Ashanti Region Need Orientation on Educational Reportage

Mr. Williams Boakye-Baafi, Coordinator for Kumasi Provincial Association of Catholic Teachers (ACT) has stated that was time for the authorities of Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to hold orientation for media personnel in the Ashanti Region on the best way for them to report on educational issues in the region.

He made the statement in an interview with the media in Kumasi on Tuesday. He was not happy about the way and manner some media personnel in the region report educational issues.

He observed that some media houses in the region had started reporting on education without consulting the necessary authorities in Ghana Education Service and even allowed phone-ins which permitted some persons who knew little about educational management to insult heads and teachers in the region.

He noted that media personnel in the region used to call ministers of education to respond to some educational management issues which should had been answered perfectly by heads or district directors or their Public Relation Officers.

Mr. Boakye-Baafi, said it would be better for Ghana Education Service (GES), to organise periodic orientation on information management in the Service as it had been done by some services like Police Service, Fire Service, Ghana Health Service and Prison Service
